OUR PURPOSE
The purpose of the Green Party of Butte County is to build a political organization through which local Greens can increase their membership, communicate effectively and act locally, with the goal of uniting into a relevant voting force in our county and state.
Objective #1: INCREASE MEMBERSHIP
To reach objective: Tabling
Tabling has proven to be an effective and low cost method of grassroots party building.
It is a high visibility action that generates new members, donations, volunteers, listserv subscribers, voter education, and legislative action. The chart below illustrates how the single action of tabling is at the very core of party building.

Our tables have become familiar places where citizens stop by often to learn about the issues and candidates and to participate in their democracy by signing petitions, initiatives, referendums and letters to legislators. In the process, they become exposed to the Green Party, often taking some GP literature away with them. This is why consistent tabling is so important. We will strive to increase tabling sites throughout the county to reach more people and continue to increase our membership.
Objective #2: COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
To reach objective: Infrastructure
An organized infrastructure is the way the Green Party of Butte County will communicate with its members and organize its volunteers. We will communicate through phone calls, mailings, press releases and postering, webpage and listservs, word-of-mouth, tabling brochures and door-to-door canvassing. Through these methods of communication, local Greens will be able to connect with each other and unite into a voting force.

The chart above expands on the first chart. It shows how each party building component that tabling generates also creates the need for either a party coordinator or a clerical administrator. This is the foundation of the party, the infrastructure. Each coordinator and clerical person is responsible for maintaining his/her part of the infrastructure. Coordinators are also responsible for organizing and scheduling their volunteer crews. This spreads the work out so it is manageable.
By spending our time developing a solid infrastructure, we will be prepared and well-staffed when our party wants to take a significant action, like organize a get-out-the-vote campaign, bring state and national candidates to town, mobilize for a local cause, put on a fundraiser, participate in a parade, or campaign for a local Green candidate.
Objective #3: ACT LOCALLY
To reach objective: Volunteerism
As part of a grassroots citizen movement to take back our democracy, the GPBC will encourage local activism by actively recruiting its members to volunteer for party work and for GPBC-endorsed local and state issues. Local activism can take many forms such as phone calling, mailing, tabling, postering, letter writing, representing the GPBC at community meetings, gathering signatures, participating in events and rallies, etc. We will be able to mobilize our growing membership by maintaining a strong infrastructure that allows for effective communication.
